If you don’t know me, I’m Greg Wyatt, a UK recruiter that works mainly with SME’s, start-ups, scales-up and businesses that are able to mitigate an overly transactional process.
What I bring to the table is insight. Insight on employers, candidates, vacancies and the market. And you can only gain insight by asking the right questions, understanding how things work, and interpreting that with meaning to those that need it.
It’s insight that lets me design my services around the individual needs of a project, and it’s one reason why I’ve filled every retained project I’ve worked on in three years.
Recruitment is contextual, and specific. The needs of one business will always be different to another. Which limits the effectiveness of generic service and advice.
That’s why this newsletter is called YMMV.
What works for volume transactional vacancies won’t work as well for critical, key or problem vacancies - because as soon as context is important, a transaction-led system is less effective.
That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with a transactional approach - it works well enough in many situations (YMMV).
The trick is to establish how advice will work for you, to get the best mileage out of it.
